The mission of the Chicago Centennial of Flight Commission is to promote the public awareness of the importance of aviation to the community, educate students on the history of aviation, and to hold events that celebrate a century of flight. The Chicago Commission is developing a list of the 100 most significant aircraft of the last century in consultation with local industry historians and confirmed and enriched with public comment and personal stories collected via the Chicago website. In addition the Chicago Centennial of Flight Commission will host educational events including career day speakers at grade schools and create a hands-on curriculum to educate students on the history of aviation and technical aspects of flight.
