Dear Aviation Enthusiast:
The centennial celebration of the first powered flight on December 17, 1903, by the Wright Brothers, is fast approaching. Inspired by the U.S. Centennial of Flight Commission’s missive, “Celebrating a Century of Wings,” The Chicago Centennial of Flight Commission and its member organizations, representing aviation related business, government and community partners, are planning a variety of exhibits and educational activities to commemorate 100 years of powered flight.
If your organization is planning any air shows, fly in’s, seminars, aviation workshops, exhibits or similar programs that are open to the public, we would like to invite you to join us with a listing of your activities on our web site calendar of events.
The Aviation community encourages you to join in the celebration of this Centennial by planning events of your own and participating in events sponsored by other agencies. Since ancient times, people have dreamed of being able to fly. It seems impossible that powered flight has been available for only the past 100 years. It is even more incredible that we have progressed in only 100 years from Kitty Hawk to manned space stations. Let us celebrate our accomplishments in this Centennial Celebration.
Sincerely,
Chicago Centennial of Flight Commission
